Why Ukraine Now?

We agree that Ukraine needs all support in withstanding the Russian terror. To the surprise of the world their army is stronger than anyone imagined in 2022. What Putin did not understand was that they attacked a people who was determined to fight for their freedom, for a civilised society, democracy and to be a respected country in Europe.

The military success would not have been possible without the support from the civil society. Everybody helps in. Relatives support their man in the army. There are 10 000 th of thousands of voluntary organisations supporting. Small and countrywide. At the same time normal life continues in the cities. People go to work, drink latte, go to the beauty parlour, opera etc. And trains are running perfectly on time.

Days will be filled by visits to volunteering organizations and walks in the beautiful historical towns. But we also see the destruction caused by Russian terror bombing. Most important, we go one full day to villages earlier occupied by the Russians. Here the destruction is in places shocking, sheer terror. We meet the people still living there and listen to their stories.

The aim of the tour is to learn about and experience the Ukrainian situation. Another is to show solidarity by coming for a few days to share their everyday life. “You are heroes,” we have been told several times.
Financially, a lot of money is left in Ukraine. The tour in April 2025 left some 32 000€ to organizations and civil society.
This is a non-profit tour. Me and my wife pay our own costs.
